My name is Reinaldo Olavarria. I am a Wake County Resident. I live at 614 Gaslight Trail, in Wendell, NC.
First, I wanted to address a concern. When public comments are submitted, I believe they are supposed to be read into the record. And, several times that did not occur. The inquiry and comment then is why is procedure not being followed in this matter.
Second, typically, organizations, commissions, boards, etc., use Robert’s Rules of Order. And procedurally, the minutes from the previous meeting are usually approved, revised, amended, or otherwise adopted at the next scheduled meeting of the body. I am curious as to why this procedure is not being carried out by this body.
Lastly, imagine if you will, a person whom has the power. The power of what. The power to allot a $30k position, the power to influence a $75k Position, the power to sneak in a person in a $120k position. What positions are alluded to here, they are government employment positions. Imagine, you are in one of the highest positions in the county, you are able to “counsel” and “guide” department heads in their hiring practices, but, you have a predisposition to hire your friends and only people that look just like you.
The comment for this board is why has the board remained silent. Years I pushed for the need for open and competitive hiring. I provided examples of the needs and practices. I provided a suggestion that the county board of commissioners insist on a lottery system to help in the employee selection process. A lottery system the ensure everyone has a fair chance when applying for positions. These are tax payer funded positions and positions wherein County Funds are being spent “for the people”.
I am not in receipt of any response from the Wake County Board of Commissioners as to any of my previous public comments. A reasonable person then can conclude many things but here are three. “The board” assents to the practice of just hiring your friends. “The board is not interested” in fairness in county employment. Or, as I believe here, one of the persons in the highest positions obtained his position in the same unfair manner and desires to keep things “that way”.
Let me say this, the EEOC did provide me in the past multiple “Rights to Sue”. But, I would think this is a public interest topic for the Wake County Board of Commissioner whom navigate some of the biggest funding lines in the county. You direct the county dollars. Why not just respond to the comments? Read the comments into the minutes. Heck, publicly approve or amend the minutes from meeting.
I implore you to ensure fairness in government. Make Wake County Great Again. Ensure all county residents can apply for and receive government jobs with all fairness and opportunity being applied. Thank you.
