My name is Reinaldo Olavarria and I am part of Universal House of Prayer of North Carolina. For several months now, I have been driving by the South Wilmington Center for Men in Raleigh North Carolina 1420 South Wilmington Street. The purpose of this letter is to request assistance with addressing problems of crime openly committed on the property and yards across the street on the adjacent service road with a Bus Stop.

When visiting family and in the area returning from such, I pass by the center. Each and every time I pass by the center, unwanted and unsolicited persons attempted to intercept my automobile that I am driving on the service road that intersects the center. They “crack heads” keep just heading to and approaching the car when I attempt to drive by.

There is a congregation center there at the bus stop. That includes the presence of what presents as “chicken heads” or female prostitutes. It seems like “sex is for sale” (using a reasonable person standard based on direct visual observations).

Persons are sleeping on the center grounds right on the front facades. They are sleep on the bricks and near the front bushes. Two parking spots are found right there in the front of the facility and perhaps employees or guests have to traverse “over sleeping bodies”. It presents that no perimeter checks are being made at the center especially just in front of the center. They really need to power wash that area due to the biological fluids found thereat.

Although there are numerous “No Parking Anytime Signs” are displayed, numerous cars are parked thereat all night long. The scary part is on more than one occasion, I observed lite crack pipes being used, again, right in front of the center, inside the automobiles parked there at. The automobiles to include trucks are being used for illegal purposes.

Members of the general public are at risk, as I directly experienced, just driving pass the center for men. People are just running up onto traffic using the road.

Using a professional standard, it presents that center staff and management are not making good faith efforts to ensure the safety of guest, members of the neighborhood and general public, and workers thereat. Please help clean up that area. Years ago, down on Martin Street in Raleigh, the Zombies, addicted persons and sex workers, would just come up to any car using the roads. That is happening at the center. Please help clean up that area and “MAKE RALEIGH SAFE AGAIN”. It is scary not being able to just drive by. It is scary to see open illegal activity happening right on center property, and you have Oak City a family center right next door to the Men’s Shelter. Make sure the administration and staff use law enforcement and security to make the “Center Safe Again”. Thank you.
